"If you're planning a trip of a week that involves changing hotels more than once, please rethink. Try visiting www.SlowTrav.com on the Web. Slow Travel advocates my favorite way to vacation - renting a villa, apartment or other homey accommodation settling in for at least a week to see only the immediate area. At this Web site, you can find vacation rentals, read trip reports by (mostly) slow travelers, and get help planning a slow trip on the message boards."

That's why she created the phrase "slow travel" and an Internet site, www.slowtrav.com, to spread the message ... "It's a nice way to travel. Dream of Italy

Dream of Italy, article by magazine editor, Kathleen McCabe, May/June issue.

"Pauline Kenny, who runs slowtravelers.com, a Web site devoted to reviews and discussion of vacation rentals, says prospective renters often choose a location based on romantic ideas, not reality. "People think they want to get way off the beaten track and then they end up in parts of Italy that are very rural and rough, where people are really not used to tourists and don't speak English. I like to go to a place that's set up for tourists, where more shops and restaurants are available, that is why I think Tuscany is fabulous," she says."

January

Albuquerque Journal

Albuquerque Journal, Travel Section, "Couple See World at Stately Pace" by Judy Giannettino, January 19, 2003.

"A month in Hawaii. Eight weeks in Italy. Perhaps up to a year in England. That's how Pauline Kenny and her husband, Steve Cohen, like to travel.

Rather than seeing the world the way a lot of Americans do - by booking a seven-day trip and visiting as many sites as possible within that week - Kenny and Cohen take off for longer periods of time and rent apartments or houses or villas.

They immerse themselves in the local culture by shopping at markets, finding neighborhood cafes for coffee, relaxing in the gardens of their rental homes and learning the lay of the land.

"It's an incredible way to be able to travel," says Kenny, adding that all kinds of people could travel her way - she calls it slow traveling - if they knew how.

Kenny and Cohen, and a host of other slow travelers, help people learn thanks to an Internet site Kenny set up nearly three years ago because she wanted to learn Web design.

"I wanted to learn Web design so I thought, 'I need to set up a Web site but I need a topic,' '' says Kenny. She decided on her favorite topic and the result is slowtrav.com, a site with lists of vacation rentals, tips about everything from how to do laundry in Italy to how to read hiking trail signs in Switzerland and a popular message board."

Writer Judy Giannettino found SlowTrav when researching her trip to Italy.
